We spent the entire day out and about to see the significant sights. Fortunately, based on the advice from this Facebook group, we booked a few skip-the-line small group tours.
In the morning, we took a 12-person line-skipping walking tour through the Galleria dell ’Accademia to visit our friend, David, along with other marvels. Then, we skipped the lines into The Duomo Group, ending with the 463-step climb up the Duomo (Dome). The height was 114 meters (374 feet), and our quads felt every meter or foot. The views were amazing.
I loved our guide, Mateo, and we highly recommend this tour: https://www.viator.com/tours/Florence/Florence-Walking-Tour-with-Michelangelos-David/d519-24338P5
After the morning tour, we had a wonderful lunch and continued touring. Piazza Della Signoria, Santa Croce, the Church of Santa Maria Novella, then returning to some air conditioning.
We ended the evening with dinner at Buca Niccolini, which we highly recommend. We had lunch at Il Templari, which was also delicious.
Tips on Florence in the summer. Yes, it’s toasty. And crowded. Start early in the morning through noon or one. Head back into some air conditioning until about 5 pm. Always have water with you, hats, sunscreen, and good walking shoes—no need to dress up for anything.
I’m sure it’s too late but the best sandwich ever is in Florence at All’Antico Vinaio. They recently opened in NYC.
